211 Non-Emergency Helpline - New Jersey residents in need of health and human services, community resources and governmental assistance are now just a three-digit telephone call away form the information they need. All they have to do is pickup a telephone and dial 2-1-1. The service is available 24 hours a day, confidential, multilingual and accessible to the hearing impaired.

County Household Hazardous Waste Coordinator - Find out about recycling issues here, especially for dangerous materials such as batteries, herbicides, paints, etc. Select your county from the list at the left of the page.

Department of Emergency Preparedness - Works closely with municipal, state, federal and emergency management units coordinating emergency planning, response and recovery programs. Provides educational programs to meet state and federal mandates. This division encompasses a Hazardous Materials Advisory Council, Communications Repair, Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team, Emergency Medical Mobilization Group, Dive Rescue Team and Communications Group.

Department of Health and Safety - Responsible for the planning of long-term goals and annual objectives for the protection of environmental quality and enhancement of life in Somerset County. Coordinates regional health and environmental compliance programs with local health departments to ensure the effective delivery of service. Serves as local health department for the Borough of North Plainfield. As the County LINCS Agency, the Somerset County Health Department is the lead agency for the public health emergency preparedness and response team, which provides services related to bioterroism preparedness and response and other public health threats and emergencies.

Department of Human Services - Coordinates and facilitates the provision of services and programs which work to address economic self-sufficiency and promote the social well-being of county residents. Responsible for planning the human services needs of county residents, developing needed programs, administering funding and monitoring and evaluating program performance.

Mental Health Center - Comprehensive mental health center dedicated to the prevention, early detection and treatment of emotional illness for county residents. Outpatient care, 24hour emergency service (908-526-4100), afterschool adolescent program, school liaison services and partial care adult program, supported employment and homeless mentally ill program.

NJ Division of Mental Health Designated Psychiatric/Crisis Screening Centers - Contains a listing by county of the designated psychiatric centers.

NJHelps - NJHelps is a free and easy way for you to prescreen for 8 programs that are available to help you and your family. NJHelps is private, we do not ask who you are and we do not share your information with anyone. NJHelps will tell you where to go for help and what to bring with you, after you have answered all the questions.

Office for the Disabled - Advocates for persons with disabilities; provides information and referral of resources and services for persons with disabilities and their significant others; conducts outreach programs and serves as Americans With Disabilities Act Compliance Officer for county facilities and programs; administers Personal Assistance Service Program.

Office on Aging - Manages NJ EASE - Easy Access Single Entry system for Somerset County's older adults and their caregivers. Assesses needs of older persons and plans programs and services to meet those needs. Offers information and referral services, outreach, senior centers and home-delivered meals, wellness and care coordination, legal counseling and elder care for employees. You can also access their Resource Directory from this site, as well as information on Transportation and Senior Centers.

Project Lifesaver - Do you have a family member who tends to wander, and cannot always remember the way home? This program allows the police to track a disabled senior or child if they leave home and can't be found.

Senior Initiative - This site is dedicated to providing information on Eldercare for seniors and their caregivers.

Sexual Assault Response Team - Somerset County offers victims of sexual assault the services of a highly specialized team. The Sexual Assault Response Team includes a law enforcement officer (to investigate the incident), a rape care advocate (to provide information and support) and a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) (to perform the medical/forensic examination).

Somerset County Cancer Resources - The New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection Screening Program (NJCEED) is part of the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. NJCEED provides comprehensive screening services for breast, cervical, prostate, and colorectal cancer.

Somerset County United Way - Somerset County United Way supports health and human services providers through its strength in raising funds and effectively investing them, through the investment of volunteer resources and by building community collaboratives and partnerships.

Veteran's Services -The Veterans Services Division provides counsel, information and referral to county veterans of military service and their families. The office assists with the application process for benefits from the Veterans Administration and other federal and state agencies; orchestrates the issuance of internment memorial markers and grave flags; maintains a close liaisonship with county veterans' organizations; and provides assistance for memorial and patriotic ceremonies.

Youth Services - Assesses, plans and coordinates efforts of government and community agencies that work with at-risk delinquent youth and youth with emotional and/or behavioral disturbance. Plans and develops programs and services to meet the needs of this diverse population.
