American Sickle Cell Anemia Association - Click here to find a local support group.

Find a NJ Doctor:New Jersey Health Care Profile - This site includes information on all doctors who are actively licensed and currently permitted to practice medicine or podiatry in New Jersey. The website can be searched to locate doctors practicing in a particular area or hospital. The profiles contain information about a doctor's education, training, and medical practice.

New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services - Click here to view the Department's alphabetic list of health-related topics, programs and services. The site changes often so use the site search option to look for your topic or your browser Find option to search for a word or phrase.

NJ Self-Help Group Clearinghouse - Assists people in finding, forming and learning about self-help support groups at local, national and Internet levels. Has toll-free helpine and publishes an annual Self-Help Group Directory, which can be found at most public libraries.

Sickle Cell Disease Donations - The American Red Cross takes donations of blood and they are especially looking for African-Americans to donate for transfusions to those who suffer from sickle cell anemia.

Sickle Cell Disease: Family Guide - The New Jersey Division of Family Services has produced a guide to sickle cell anemia that includes information about the disease (with nice illustrations), a glossary of medical terms, and directories of treatment and genetic counseling centers. The section on "Sickle Cell Disease on the Internet" is not very useful.

Sickle Cell Disease: Information for School Personnel - In addition to general information about sickle cell anemia, this guide from the Division of Family Services provides information for school teachers, nurses, and social workers. There are informative sections on complications, medical management, and psychosocial issues. There is also a glossary, a bibliography, and directories of treatment and genetic counseling centers.

Valerie Fund Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders - The Valerie Fund Center for Cancer and Blood Disorder uses a multidisciplinary approach to provide comprehensive care for children and young adults with cancer. The Valerie Fund is also home to one of nine state-designated sickle cell programs. You can see a list of other Valerie Fund Centers here.
